Understanding intelligence and the processing of information through the progamming of a computing device.
The prevasiveness of technology can not be denied. Technology has enriched our lives in ways that were only dreamed of in movies less than a century ago. As Thomas L Friedman stated in his book That used to be us, we are living in a hyperconnected world. We must understand this vast sea of information that is available at our fingertips and learn how to intelligenty master it if we are to affect change.
In CSCI-100 you will explore the concepts of information and intelligence as you learn to program a microcontroller. Through this exploration you will develop your own ability to think analytically and critically which is applicable in all walks of life be it sciences, humanities or the arts.
It's our hope that through this course many of you will be inspired to continue your exploration into the programming of technology. You do not have to be a professional developer to harness the power of programming.
I think everybody in this country should learn how to program a computer — because it teaches you how to think.
